Why you should use a “Shear-Seal” valve from Barksdale Controls

“For superior control in Hydraulic Systems of course”

What is a “Shear-Seal”

  • The Shear-Seal®is a small hardened metal cylinder that is inserted in a bored hole in the valve body. The face of the cylinder forms a seal against the face of the rotor.
  • The passage between the outside of the cylinder and the bore in the body is sealed by an O-ring. The O-ring is protected by two backup rings, one on either side.
  • A wave washer sits underneath the cylinder and holds the sealing end of the Shear-Seal®in contact with the face of the rotor.

The flow of the media creates differential pressure pushing the Shear-Seals up against the rotor which increases the sealing force and prevents leakage

  • Hardened Metal to Metal Seal
  • Virtually Zero Leakage
    • 3cc/min max allowable*
    • Usually zero
    • Improves with use
  • Media flows through internal galleries – not across sealing faces
    • Excels at handling contaminated medias
    • Dirt cannot score shear-seals
    • Surfaces wipe away dirt
  • High velocity flows, low pressure drop
